I am so excited about the redesign of the first product I sold in my TeachersPayTeachers store.

Paul Bunyan’s America can be found in My Shop, , and Teacher’s Notebook

Picture Book Geography: Paul Bunyan’s America was a project I created a year ago for my young son, an introduction to American landmarks by reading and learning about one of my favorite tall tale heroes, Paul Bunyan. He enjoyed it at the time, and I thought others might also enjoy it, so I expanded it for my TeachersPayTeachers store.

It was time for a major update once again. Now I believe it is a great product. It has a five-page lesson plan, with annotated lists of children’s books about Paul Bunyan, U.S. Geography, and a basic introduction to the science of landforms creation. With the books are ideas for hand-on activities for exploring basic science in the class (such as erosion and the layers of the earth).

I’ve also revamped the worksheets. Now there are eight worksheets, in both color and black and white, to learn about both the vocabulary and the various landforms and their location in America.

paul bunyanThis is a fun mini-unit for Kindergarten and first grade. Teachers can have a lot of fun with Paul Bunyan. One worksheet also lets the kids think of their own tall tales, and that would be a class I’d love to sit in on! I would love to know what your students come up with.
