Online Homeschool Math Curriculum

Post by Rebecca Reid 1 Comment

When my kids learn from a different teacher as well as from me, their learning is expounded. Teaching math using CTCMath online homeschool math curriculum has been a great addition to our homeschool classroom.

CTCMath lets my kids watch a math tutorial and do self-grading math review by themseles, giving me more free time as I homeschool them in the other subjects! I love online homeschool curriculum!

Note: I received a complimentary copy of CTCMath and was compensated for my time writing this review in exchange for my honest thoughts. A positive review was not required.

CTCMath Review

Math is not my favorite subject. When I first decided to start homeschool, math was one thing I was not excited about relearning. By teaching math with CTCMath this summer, I’ve found additional free time. My kids don’t always need me looking over their shoulder to help them with their math. Since my son is about to start sixth grade math, this is great! It has been a long time since I did sixth grade math.

Now I don’t have to teach the concepts. Instead, a video tutor teaches a mathematical concept. Then the student clicks on the “Questions” section of a lesson. My daughter, who is still an emerging reader, can also click the sound icon next to each problem to hear it read aloud to her.

Finding a suitable online math curriculum has taken time, but CTCMath seems to have what both of my kids need: an advanced math tutor for my older child, and a step-by-step program with read-aloud capabilities for my emerging reader doing first grade math.

Parent’s CTCMath Review

From a parent’s perspective, CTCMath makes teaching math so much easier in our homeschool. I can assign my students lessons with various due dates, as well as regular weekly review (called “revision”). After a student finishes a section, I can assign a longer “diagnostic” test to check overall retention of the concepts.

I can easily review student progress from my parent login. Right off the bat I can see what concepts my children are struggling with. Yes, I may have to go back and review some math concepts to help my kids, but the great news is that the math tutorial is available to us all. I too can get the training I need to do the math.

Students’ CTCMath Review

My kids also love the chance to do CTCMath. My daughter loves that I let her use the computer (and she loves the touch screen). She loves that she can say she doesn’t need my help, because she can watch the video and listen to the questions on her own. She cheers when she sees the “confetti” after a good lesson is graded. She loves that she can change the background colors on her math lessons. (Hence, the purple math lesson screens in the images on this post!)

My son has had a lot of experience doing various homeschool math curricula. He likes CTCMath because he can see right away what I want him to accomplish each week. He can do it independently and also easily review concepts from last year’s math. It has everything easily accessible on the web for him if we’re traveling.
