Service for Young Children: Share Christmas Treats

Written by Rebecca Reid

There is one thing my preschooler always loves doing, and that is eating sugar-filled anything. It is our tradition then to bake Christmas treats for friends each year. Preparing Christmas treats and giving them to friends is a simple and fun activity for young children. We share Christmas treats to show that we care.

What Christmas Treats to Give

Everyone has their favorite Christmas treats! Here are some of mine.
  • Chocolate fudge
  • White chocolate fudge
  • Peppermint bark. Super easy for kids to make!
  • Walnut cookies (also called snowball cookies)
  • Sugar cookies
  • Chocolate chip cookies
  • Gingerbread cookies
  • Chocolate dipped pretzels
The list could go on and on!  Add your favorites to the list as well.

Giving Christmas Treats with Young Children

For my little ones, giving treats to people is a a delightful treat to them as well. They beg to be the one to deliver the treats to the door. They follow up with the friends to ask them (later) if they enjoyed the cookies (etc.). They remember. Making treats will not always be a perfect display of design. I let my kids decorate the sugar cookies just this last week. Let me say, when you mix red and green sprinkles together, the cookie will look brown. It may not look very neat at all. But the act of decorating and the act of giving will be a blessing to your child as well as the receiver. Consider decorative tins or take-away boxes as the packaging for your treats.

TL;DR

In summary, here's the scoop.
Service: Prepare Christmas treats and deliver them to family and friends. Cost: Cost of baking supplies. Time investment: 1-2 hours of baking+ delivery time.
