Author’s Purpose Task Cards is a brief introduction to the concepts of author’s purpose.
Included is a page with labels of “Persuade”, “Inform”, and “Entertain.” Then, there are 16 task cards with simple writing phrases, sentences, or paragraphs. These can be categorized into the P, I, or E categories.
Review these passages with students. Discuss why students categorized each item as they did. Doing so will help them understand the nuances of author’s purpose. Can they rewrite a passage to be a different category?
