Resource of the Week: That Pencil Sharpener

Post by Rebecca Reid 4 Comments

For the past year of homeschooling, I’ve been relying on small, handheld, dollar plastic pencil sharpeners to keep our pencils sharp. You should also know that I absolutely hate dull pencils.

This leads us to a problem, obviously, since those cheap-o pencil sharpeners are a pain to use and rarely get the pencils sharp. Add to this the fact that I am leading a writing workshop in co-op and promised to bring pencils each week, and I’ve been on a hunt for a pencil sharpener.

When I saw the blogosphere raving about the Classroom Friendly School Supplies Pencil Sharpener, for sale for $24.95, I decided it was an item I should invest in. I fully expected to find an average pencil sharpener, but certainly something better than the plastic, handheld sharpeners we’ve got.

Well, folks, it really is That Good. I was going to take a video and get some before and after pictures of my pile of dull pencils. But it was so quick and my son was so excited to sharpen pencils that they were all sharpened before I knew it. And when I say sharpened, I mean sharper than sharp. These pencils are gorgeously sharp. Each pencil took about three seconds, too. I realize this makes me a nerd, but I love my new pencil sharpener.

Here is the after picture. I grabbed all my sharp pencil and snapped a picture. If you look closely, though, you can tell which pencil (one of them) was NOT sharpened in the Classroom Friendly School Supplies Pencil Sharpener.

This is the best pencil sharpener I’ve ever used!

If there is one downside, it is that I cannot figure out how to get it to remain clamped to my desk. But that is a little matter.

I was not compensated for this review. I bought the sharpener outright myself, and I still was incredibly impressed and surprised! If you are looking for a sharpener, this is the one to get!

Loved this – we have about 5 pencil sharpeners everywhere around the house and NONE of them sharpen anymore! I was going to look at amazon to find a new one this weekend…so it’s fortunate that I dropped by to read about your homeschooling journey, only to find a post about a pencil sharpener! it’s fate! I am going to buy this. now. thanks 🙂

I have to admit I am really in love with my electric pencil sharpener. :-). It was missing for about five years after a long ago move, and I rejoiced greatly when I found it in a random box in the corner of the basement. I ditched my pencil sharpener like yours in favor of the even less effort electric one. 🙂

Kirsten, I’ll bet mine gets my pencils sharper than yours does!! When I say 3 seconds per pencil I mean it. But yes, I always thought I’d get an electric sharpener too…
